Welcome to the online home of

St Joseph's RC Church in Lancaster

St Joseph’s is the beating heart of our community. We open our arms to all, especially those who struggle and are overburdened. With love and mercy we encourage and accompany all into a joyful encounter with Christ.

We are blessed with the most beautiful church in Lancaster, built in 1900 by the famous Pugin family, where we can pray, worship and celebrate our faith. The parish incorporates St Joseph’s Primary School, Our Lady’s Catholic College, and St John’s Hospice, and is made up of many wonderful people of all ages and backgrounds; our doors are open to all.

St Joseph is the patron of our parish. He was the husband of Mary and foster father of Jesus. The parish draws inspiration from St Joseph who took to his heart the Angel’s message that God-is-with-us, who watched over his family, who put into action his faith, and who united everything in his life – his work, his home, his family, his joys and struggles – to Jesus who was in his midst.

In these our times, the Lord once again seeks to be amongst us, and through our prayer and worship, the celebration of the sacraments, our community life and our service to others we seek to make flesh once again this reality in our lives.

The Holy Eucharist - The Mass

The Eucharist is the source and summit of our Christian life, drawing us all into the heart of Jesus’ mission and making us present at the Last Supper, His passion and death, and opening up to us the mystery of the Resurrection. At Mass we experience a true and authentic encounter with Christ in four specific ways:

  • in the ministers - (Christ the Head)

  • in the people gathered to celebrate (Christ the Body)

  • in the scripture (The Word of God)

  • in the sacrament (The Word incarnate)
